The Frailty of Living Things
Poems by Carole Giangrande
The Frailty of Living Things weaves together thoughts and reflections from the pandemic: isolation and loneliness, but also hope, compassion and a touch of humour. These poems speak to the impacts of our social illnesses while drawing consolation from the beauty of the natural world.
From “Pruning Indoor Plants in Quarantine:”
I gather them
like questions that cannot be answered, only lived, removing ageing tendrils, watering
the new; sensing that time has given me
this moment to shape and prune my life, to contemplate the frailty of living things, held in the mystery,
the beauty of attention.
